Pasighat News:- Nyishi community of Pasighat observed Pre-Nyokum.

The Nyishi community of Pasighat living and serving in various government offices, agencies, student communities celebrated Pre-Nyokum festival today at ‘Giidii Notko’, the all community festival ground near Sibo-Korong with great pomp and show.

The Pre-Nykum festival celebration was graced by Okom Yosung, Secretary General, Adi Baane Kebang as Chief Guest, Tobom Dai, General Secretary, All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union as Guest of honour and PC Gogoi, Principal, Polytechnic College, Pasighat as special guest. The celebration was marked by conducting traditional rituals of Nyokum and also by hoisting flag of the festival. The festival organizers led by Chairman, Chello Talom, Vice Chairman, Kej Obin and student communities led by Tagin-Nyshi-Galo (TNG) under the Patronship of Dr. D. Raina, Jt. Director, Health Services (T & R), Bakin Pertin, General Hospital, Pasighat said that, the objective of Pre-Nyokum celebration is to bring unity and communal harmony among the community members.

Nyokum is a festival celebrated by the Nyishi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. The word Nyokum has been driven from the combination of two words, Nyok means land (earth) and Kum means collectiveness or togetherness. Therefore, the Nyokum festival very well be interpreted as inviting all the Gods and Goddesses of the universe, with the Nyokum Goddess as the principal deity, to a particular venue at a particular time. The festival is commonly celebrated by the people from all class and walk of life for better productivity, prosperity and happiness of all human being on earth.

While speaking on the occasion, Okom Yosung and Tobom Dai advised the students and new generation of Nyishi community to upkeep the rich traditions and cultures. Celebration of festival brings togetherness and harmony among the community members while pleasing the nature God and Goddesses.
