Official: Local militants carried out Sri Lanka attacks

(22 Apr 2019) A Sri Lankan government official says a domestic militant group named National Thowfeek Jamaath is responsible for the Easter Sunday suicide bombings.

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said all seven bombers linked to the attacks on churches and luxury hotels in and around Colombo were Sri Lankan citizens.

A total of nine bombings Sunday killed at least 290 people including at least 27 foreigners.
