Mt Erebus-Flight past the crater and a day on the mountain-Antarctica in 4K

Mt Erebus-Flight past the crater and a day on the mountain-Antarctica in 4K A Search and Rescue exercise at Scott Base last season took us up onto the flanks of Mt Erebus, an active volcano. On the flight there and back we got to fly near the crater rim and look into the crater its self of this almost 4000m mountain.

Near the Lower Erebus Hut there is an old helicopter crash and quite a few fumarole's. A fumerole is this amazing natural feature made of ice that builds up over a warm geothermal vent on the side of the mountains.

Next season there is a science event that will be based on the mountain.

Because the oxygen up the mountain is quite thin we had to carry oxygen as a back up. We only used it a few times just to help us when we were walking up hill.

Thanks to Cole, Jess, Bex, and Jon for being a part of this video and massive thanks to Jon and Antarctica NZ for making this trip happen.
