UNITED STATES military forces “ought to be concerned” about the “significant escalation” in rhetoric from Iran, a retired admiral has warned.
US National Security Advisor John Bolton said the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group was being deployed to the US Central Command region following “a number of troubling and escalatory indications and warnings”. Mr Bolton said: “The United States is not seeking war with the Iranian regime, but we are fully prepared to respond to any attack, whether by proxy, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or regular Iranian forces.”
Retired Admiral James Stavridis said the decision by the US military to send bombers to the Middle East is a sign of “rising tensions” in the region.
The former NATO supreme allied commander said the move by US military forces was not planned to take place for another few months.
Speaking to MSNBC, Mr Stavridis said: “It was planned for the carrier strike group to move into the Arabian Gulf. But not for a few months.
“We have had a carrier strike group in the Gulf for decades. I commanded the enterprise carrier strike groups some years ago. These are massive machines of war.
