The goal of Kidney Failure Treatment is to restore kidney function and reduce high levels of cretonne, urea and potassium. A common question which is asked by every kidney patient is that ‘how much water should I drink in a day?’ As extra fluid builds up in your body, it may cause swelling in legs, ankles and foot. Reducing water intake can help to get rid of swelling in kidney patients. Everything which is liquid at room temperature is called as fluid which includes water, ice cream, tea and milk etc.

- Patients with No Dialysis and normal urine output
You have to measure your 24 hour urine output. Suppose your kidney is forming 500 ml of urine that means you can take 1000 ml of water, as you are losing 500 ml of fluid through urine and another 1000 ml through your respiration and sweating, that means you can take 1500 ml of fluid in a day.

Excess retention of fluid in body causes high blood pressure and increased pulse rate. Patients with kidney failure need to drink the right amount of water as fluid retention may cause increase in weight. So always keep in mind to avoid over intake of fluid and avoid all kinds of salts to manage fluid retention.
