Kochi: Thirty wheelchairs were distributed to persons with disabilities at ‘Punarjini’ event in Cabral Yard in Kochi Muziris Biennale by Divyang Foundation, an NGO founded by activist Prajith Jaipal. After the deluge of August 2018 with a resolve to reach out to this needy segment of society he collaborated with the Indianapolis Indian Malayali Association to sponsor the wheelchairs manufactured by Invacare. He was all praise for the cooperation and understanding of Kochi Biennale Foundation President Krishnamachari Bose, who responded spontaneously to a single phone call. “KBF has been very supportive. It is also a chance for wheelchair users to come out of their homes and witness a global art festival like the Biennale. Most of the beneficiaries are yet to venture out of their rooms and we hope that this artistic outing will invigorate them,” said Prajith. Presided over by him, the function was inaugurated by Mayor Soumini Jain, with District Judge Justice Shashindran as guest of honour. Felicitations were offered by Bose, Lakshmi Menon of ‘Chekkutty’ fame, and Mahadev Prasad of ‘Sukritham Girls Home’, Kozhikode. Fazil T, JCI Feroke Metro chapter President presented the report, while by Sajish Binu welcomed the gathering and Vikas proposed a vote of thanks. Volunteer Suhas Nambath too attended.
