That Kind of Girl XV: Dream Daddy

Including Dream Daddy in this project was a hard decision. On one hand I felt that it doesn't apply to the project's perimeters, given that I personally ID as a butch woman. I felt uncomfortable sort of putting myself in a space where I don't feel I belong re: transmasculine identities and the game's choice to include the "binder bod" options. On the other hand, it's a game that I feel encourages its players to be themselves; have a "dadsona" and the like. I highly doubt that the devs were thinking all that deeply in regards to gender when making the game. And it would be inaccurate to say that in the spectrum of butch identity there aren't people who bind, choose to be "dad" to their kids, etc.

So I'm left kind of juggling a lot of thoughts on if doing this was the right choice. The That Kind of Girl project is to me about self discovery and what it means for me, Sam, to exist physically. And a part of that is to go through any and every game with a character creation tool I can think of no matter what the choices they offer. Most games don't really have a ton of options to make my physical self a real possibility, and that's fine.
_____

That Kind of Girl is a self portraiture project using various video games’ character creation tools. It’s an attempt to recreate myself, a fat/butch/hairy/etc. woman, with the ideals and restrictions that developers, companies, society have put on gender. Is it possible to exist?
