NATO Has No Intention Of Housing New Land-Based Nuclear Missiles In Europe

According to a report by Reuters, on Friday, Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO has no intention of moving new land-based nuclear missiles to Europe, after the United States said that it would suspend compliance with the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Russia. Stoltenberg said in an interview in the Norwegian capital, “NATO does not have any intention to deploy new land-based nuclear weapons to Europe. We don’t have to mirror what Russia does. But at the same time we have to make sure that we maintain credible and effective deterrence." Reuters reports that Stoltenberg gave no specific details of what different deterrents NATO is considering.
