A police sergeant used a Taser to detain a man who he found attempting to steal a bicycle outside a police station in the city of Gladstone, Oregon, on December 27, police said.
CCTV footage shows a police officer – identified in a police Facebook post as Sergeant Okerman – walking out of the station to discover a man wearing a balaclava allegedly trying to steal a bike.
The officer promptly pointed a Taser at the man before arresting him.
In an accompanying Facebook post, a police department spokesman said: “Suspect arrested for attempting to steal a bike…From the PD!!!! SGT Okerman arrested the suspect after confronting him with a Taser. Video of the encounter below.”
Local TV station KOIN 6 reported two police officers were inside the station watching the cameras when a man, later identified as Adam Valle, walked up to the bike with a pair of bolt cutters.
“The officers confronted Valle with a Taser, who complied and put down the bolt cutters. Within minutes he was handcuffed, pockets searched, unmasked and taken to jail,” KOIN 6 reported.
