Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar is too high. It occurs when the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired.
The main cause of diabetes is absence or insufficient production of insulin or the inability of the body to properly use insulin.
Type 1 diabetes also called juvenile diabetes occurs when the immune system attacks And destroys the insulin producing beta cells of the pancreas. People with type 1 diabetes don’t produce insulin.
Type 2 diabetes - people don’t respond to insulin as well as they should. (Insulin resistance).
Risk factors for type 2 diabetes include family history, age, geography, and genetics.
Some causes of type 2 diabetes include lifestyle, excess weight and inactivity.
Symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination, feeling thirsty, feeling hungry, feeling fatigues, blurry vision, cuts or sore that don’t heal properly.
Prevention of diabetes include: Getting screened, maintain a healthy weight, increase daily activity, eat a balanced diet and reduce intake of sugary and processed foods.
