Panerai History (1860 to 2019): Luminor and Radiomir Origins | The Classroom

Panerai History (1860 to 2019): Luminor and Radiomir Origins | The Classroom How did the Panerai Radiomir and Luminor watches become so iconic? Paneristi Josh Thanos is here to talk Panerai history from the pre-Vendome to the current era of Panerai. What is your favorite Panerai reference? Comment below!

The PAM 911 is the last of the Paneristi references from the brand. How did we get to this point? It all started in 1860 with Giovanni Panerai and his watchmaking school in Italy. Guido Panerai took over at the turn of the century and began making dive watches and other diving instruments for the Italian navy. At this point, the young brand wasn't making consumer watches, and even partnered with Rolex to make their dive watches.

By 1956, the brand was innovating dive watches with what became the iconic Luminor crown guard while eventually selling consumer watches out of a small boutique in Florence. So how did the company go from this small boutique to the iconic worldwide luxury watch brand that it is today? It all has to do with Sylvester Stallone, the Vendome family, a controversial move to Switzerland, and the still-active fan-curated website called panaristi.com. Tune in to get the full story!
