Before & After Master Suite Update - From Sad to Stylish!

Before & After Master Suite Update - From Sad to Stylish! Hi Kim Smart from Smart Interiors located in San Diego, California.

Over the years when working with clients I have learned they want to design the public spaces in the house first and of course the kids rooms. But when it comes to the master bedroom – it usually gets the cold shoulder. The Master bedroom quickly falls to the list of spaces to work on someday, which is ironic given they’re where we spend the largest portion of our lives.

My clients someday – finally came! I had already designed many other rooms in their home and now the master was going to get the attention it deserved. My clients wanted a Serene Master Oasis.

Let me show you the Before.

This master was long overdue for a design refresh. The traditional 4 poster bed no longer fit the contemporary look throughout the rest of the home. The bedding was non-existent. The night stands are too small to flank a king bed.

The carpeting had seen better days.

The sitting area, if you want to call it that, was the catch all area for unwanted items.

This room lacked cohesiveness, style, sophistication and personality.

Let me show you the After

What a transformation!

The 4 poster bed was replaced with a clean lined contemporary canopy bed. This gives the room some drama.

The nightstands were upgraded to bachelor’s chests. Here’s a tip – Bachelors chests, that is exactly what they are called, are a much better size to flank a king bed. The size of the bachelors chests balance the large bed, offer more surface space and storage.

The settee at the foot of the bed was designed with the homeowner’s two dogs in mind. It’s the perfect sleeping space for the dogs and it is covered with a durable mock animal print pleather.

The old carpeting was pulled up and replaced with a wood tile. This gives the master a more special feel and character.

The sitting area invites you to sit down and put your feet up on the oval ottoman and relax. The étagère allows my clients to have some additional shelving space to display family photos and personal mementos.

Here’s another tip – When designing your master don’t buy the matching bedroom set. Mix your piece to give it more personality and a custom feel.

This master oasis has the perfect balance of masculine and feminine. It also fits with the overall look and feel of the rest of the home. More importantly my clients are thrilled to have this serene master suite to enjoy.

Next time I will show you the renovated Master Bath Spa retreat. It is bathed in marble and it is a WOWZER.

Please leave me a comment and let me know what your favorite part of this master makeover is.

Thanks for watching and see you next time.
