he controversial suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, by President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to elicit mixed reactions.
In removing Mr Onnoghen, President Buhari claimed he acted based on a Code of Conduct Tribunal order.
Many Nigerians, however, believe the president has no such powers to remove a Chief Justice of Nigeria from office.
Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP have said that the removal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, by President Muhammadu Buhari was a judicial coup that must be resisted by all lovers of democracy.
The coalition said this at an emergency press conference no sooner than had the President Buhari announced the suspension of the CJN Onnoghen
The opposition political parties alleged that move aimed at stopping the swearing in of members of the 2019 general
election petition tribunal.
Asking CJN to remain in office and disregard this announcement as the President has no power to suspend him.
