"This 2018 SEMA Show saw some truly outrageous Ford Mustang restomods. But the Corruptt Mustang may be the craziest of them all. Put together by the mad scientists at hot rod builder American Legends, this one-of-a-kind muscle car has the appearance of a 1968 Ford Mustang coupe. But underneath the pony car shell resides an Italian engine which really lives up to the “corrupt” name.
Borrowed from a Ferrari F430, the engine powering the Corruptt Mustang is a 4.3-liter Italian thoroughbred V8. But the team at American Legends weren’t going to settle for the 483 hp of power and 343 pound-feet of torque produced by the motor. In came a Nelson Racing twin-turbo setup which boosted the power output to the range of 700 hp. The engine was then mated to a Tremec T56 six-speed transmission with sequential shifter.
The Italian connection doesn’t end with the engine, as the intake manifold was taken from a Ferrari California. The dashboard components were 3D printed and then wrapped in carbon-fiber. The floor pan too got the lightweight material treatment.
The roof got chopped and the overhangs at the front and back received some alterations. Coming to the magnificent stance, the Corruptt Mustang stands on RideTech Suspension and rolls on Avant Garde F461 wheels shod with Toyo tires.
The Ferrari engine for the Corruptt Mustang was bought through eBay. You can get basically anything there these days, right?
One of the most interesting aspects about the Corruptt project car – other than the Ferrari engine, of course – must be the dozen or more features which can controlled via Bluetooth, using an iPad. These include the doors, windows, air-con and the ride height.
The 1968 Ford Mustang which served as the foundation for this build, belongs to Tony Arme of American Legends. It had been with him for around 14 years before the unbelievable transformation to the Ferrari-powered restomod happened."
